Fashion Wire Daily NY - Tonight's Victoria Secret show was everything one would expect, complete with risqué lingerie, trapeze acts swinging from the rafters and ... PETA? During supermodel Gisele's flamenco number, in which she wore a black and red lace bra and panties and the requisite four-inch heels, four party crashers from PETA stormed right behind the Brazilian bombshell holding signs that read "Gisele is Fur Scum."
Audience members at first laughed, before they could read the signs, thinking it was part of the show, but as soon as they read the messages, they shifted uncomfortably in their seats. PETA's action was in response to Gisele's recent appointment as the fur company Blackglama's spokesmodel. A party co-hosted by Vogue and Blackglama was held under wraps from the press until after the event.
"Of course I was scared," said Gisele, after the debacle. "But I thought the best thing to do was to just keep on walking." The crashers were quickly pulled off the stage (literally) by security and carried off. Despite the show's heavy security (all invitation-holding guests were required to show government-issued ID), PETA obviously managed to make quite an entrance.
"I think they just wanted to have some fun," said Monica Mitro, executive producer of the runway show and executive vice-president of Victoria's Secret.
Since the show was taped for broadcast for November 20, producers at Victoria's Secret decided to rewind the show and re-do the flamenco number. Instead of throwing looks of disgust, audience members, including Woody Harrelson, Drea de Matteo, Lenny Kravtiz, Marc Anthony and Gina Gershon, clapped supportively when Gisele made her re-entrance. Donald Trump clapped the loudest, since his girlfriend at the moment was clad head-to-toe in a decadent, white fur coat.
